Today we were introduced with a new project that will last only for 3 days. Divided into a groups of four we are asked to go out somewhere force people to interact with an A1 sheet of white paper, using only scissors and a black thick marker. By the end of the project we should present the amount of interactions and 8 images that would tell a story of how the project went.

I am not a big fan of short projects, especially the ones that involve interaction with public, but who cares about it. We got the brief and we need to work on it.

We started out with a brainstorm to think of as much ideas as possible, thinking about how people can be involved with a paper. Writing a statement that will say or “don’t look at me” seemed to be strongest idea as people are curious by their nature and sure a lot will look to the specified point, maybe even unconsciously. It took us about an hour to print out the sentence, trace it to a single big piece of paper and we were ready go out. We agreed to get away from Pimlico and head up to the Victoria Station as it is much busier there so our chances of interactions would be higher.

On the station: Virginia was holding a paper, Brandon and Elle were doing photos and videos and I was counting the amount of interactions. Basically we counted how much people actually looked at the paper and turned away, looked in Virginia’s face and what amount of people smiled. As soon as we started there was a huge amount of people, who passed by and smiled or turned back to look into her face, also a lot of talked to her. They were really interested in why she is doing that and the purpose of the project, so it seems like they really got involved in it. We changed places several times (in/out of station), but result was mainly the same – people were really curious, they kept looking, smiling and cheering up.

To sum up, by the end of this day I changed my mind about one-day projects. It was a nice experience and the fact that we were limited by time and materials only helped us to focus on idea, rather than thinking about the appereance of the poster.
